We Remember Howard Kissel

At this time I would like to remember our close Hirschfeld friend, Howard Kissel. His keen observations and cultivated remarks always added to our dinner conversations. He talked theatre, opera, dance and politics with the ease of a linguist.

There are very few men who had such a vast cultural knowledge…and the talent to relate that gift , through criticism, to audiences. They hungered for artistic merit and Howard gave it to them in columns, blogs and in great comments.

I last saw Howard at my birthday party…his picture appeared in the NYTimes …the image was taken by Bill Cunningham. He looked so happy, crowned with that glorious head of silver hair. I shall miss him and the times he spent at the Hirschfeld home…a hallowed place for him. He knew he was safe and in the heart of the theatre…with Al.
